Nelson is a classic mill town of stone terraces, with the Whitefield conservation area at its heart and homes stepping down the hillsides. Over 60% of Pendle’s homes are in council tax band A, the highest share in Lancashire, which keeps rents affordable. Three-bedroom terraces were advertised between about £520 and £850 a month in October 2026.
Getting around
The bus and rail interchange in the town centre has hourly trains to Burnley, Blackburn, Preston and Colne, Monday to Saturday. Bus routes run to Burnley, Colne, Barnoldswick, Skipton and Keighley, and the M65 is reached at junctions 12 and 13.
Local amenities
Nelson is mid-way through a £25m Town Deal. The old Pendle Rise centre is being replaced with a new shopping scheme, and Victoria, Marsden and Walverden parks are being upgraded. There is a Friday market on Market Street, Nelson and Colne College, Pendle Community Hospital on Leeds Road, and the Lomeshaye estate, home to more than 80 businesses.
