Changes from January 2012
From 1 January 2012, the shared accommodation rate will apply to people under 35 – affecting people making new claims immediately and people with existing claims over time. Many people aged 25 to 34 living in self-contained accommodation will have a shortfall between the amount of benefit paid and the rent. RPC will keep landlords informed about how this may effect rents, but meanwhile if you have a two bedroom house you want to rent to someone under 35, we recommend that you find two tenants in that age bracket willing to share.
